The KNOWLEDGE ISLAND - as a concept introducing innovative programs to one of the small Adriatic islands - has the following objectives:

• to provide opportunity for first-rate education alongside or during the traditional or active vacation (organization of lectures and workshops, multimedia centers, free Internet on the island)
• to create a specific “refuge” for scientists and experts to work creatively and independently (isolation of the island ensures peacefulness; modern technology enables excellent working conditions)
• to connect the traditional values and heritage of the island and the region with state-of-the-art technology (relocation of high-tech companies to the island is harmonized with the original values and traditions of the island)
• to revive the traditional meeting place of different civilizations (a large number of Adriatic islands were inhabited as early as in the period of ancient Greece and Rome)
• to establish a permanent international forum “Society of the future – the knowledge society” (The Knowledge Island is a project of realization of a knowledge society at a micro-location)

The realisation of the above-mentioned goals is connected with the widely accepted objectives such as:

• promotion and popularization of knowledge and science
• revitalization of one of the small Croatian islands (demographic and economic renewal)
• promotion of sustainable development of an island
• protection and improvement of the environment and the cultural heritage
• transformation of traditional tourism into a higher value-added model with a discreet impact on the natural and social environment
• branding of Croatia as a country with a tradition of knowledge
