2007 Spring Activities Isle of Knowledge activities begin in mid March on
Kolocep Island with a team from Cornell University
led by Professor Crist Inman, under the auspices of the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise. In recent years such teams from Cornell’s CSGE have brought their expertise on sustainable development to projects in other European countries, as well in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The Island of Kolocep will host the team for one week of data collection as the first stage of a development plan that brings the island’s resort operations to the highest standards of sustainability.
My life's adventure
During the Easter vacation non-profitable institution "The Isle of Knowledge" and "Children’s Knowledge Assembly" were hosting a huge gathering on island of Koločep where many famous people demonstrated their jobs to primary school children from all over Croatia. Even though the Easter schedule was busy - for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon every day - the whole event went by in a relaxed atmosphere among children and adults who were watching the whole event sitting in the audience. As seen from the event itself, the attendance and interest for each guest/teacher was great. Tarik Filipović, Zvone Boban, Larisa Lipovac, Domagoj Račić, Ivanka Mazurkijević, Edo Pezzi, Joško Marušić told children all the intersecting details about their profession and through many different workshops explained to them what is their occupation, how did they become to be what they are now and why are they the best in what they do. The main purpose of this program was to understand the true values of their professions for children and their parents, which will help children in their selection of their future careers. The main Easter event was the second Children's assembly meeting where all the members (county heads) reported to the public about their activities during the one-year term. They talked about successes and problems they had encountered during the whole year. The meeting was presided by Drago Braić, the president of Children’s Knowledge Assembly. 30th December 2005 The president of the Croatian Privatization Fund Mr. Grga Ivezić and director of The Isle of Knowledge Domagoj Račić signed in the Government of the Republic of Croatia a Contract on Transfer of 88, 86 per cent of shares of Hotel Koločep from the state portfolio to ''The Isle of Knowledge''. After signing the contract, the minister of science, education and sports Ph.D. Dragan Primorac, the chairman of the managing council of Privredna banka Zagreb M.Sc. Božo Prka and the chairman of the managing council of ‘’The Isle of Knowledge’’ Mr. Željko Markota, signed the Protocol on Cooperation. Ministry of Science, Education and Sports and the whole Government supports the project which is up to now considered to be one of the rare and significant investments of the private sector into science, said Minister Primorac. 3rd November, 2005
ZAGREB, 3/11/2005 (Hina) - Among 14 offers for purchase of majority stake in Hoteli Kolocep, a hotel firm located on the island of Kolocep near Dubrovnik, the one submitted by the non-profit organization "The Isle of Knowledge" was selected as the best. The decision was made by the management board of The Croatian Privatization Fund at today's meeting, first after a two-month's time. Explaining decision to select "The Isle of Knowledge" for the purchase of 88,86 per cent of Hoteli Kolocep shares, president of the CPF's management board Damir Polancec emphasized that their offer had been judged superior in the categories of economy, idea and guarantee. For the first time in the history of Croatian privatization process approved was an offer of a non-profit institution. Such organization is legally bound to re-invest the profit which was also an important element in the evaluation process, said Polancec. 18th October, 2005
