2007 Spring Activities

Isle of Knowledge activities begin in mid March on Kolocep Island with a team from Cornell University led by Professor Crist Inman, under the auspices of the Center for Sustainable Global Enterprise. In recent years such teams from Cornell’s CSGE have brought their expertise on sustainable development to projects in other European countries, as well in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The Island of Kolocep will host the team for one week of data collection as the first stage of a development plan that brings the island’s resort operations to the highest standards of sustainability.
Over the last 12 days of April, Isle of Knowledge is hosting the first annual Eastern Europe Sustainable Hospitality Practicum with the sponsorship of Cornell University’s CSGE and the world’s largest Internet agency – Expedia, whose Partner Services Group initiated the idea for the Practicum, and chose Isle of Knowledge for implementation. Hundreds of hospitality industry leaders from across the region will converge for each of the four seminars in the Practicum, focusing on sustainability issues in the context of competitiveness, service quality, change management processes, and facilities design.
Between May 11th and May 13th, in cooperation with South European Center for Contemporary Finance (SECCF), one of Norway's most renowned professors in the field of Financial Economics - Oyvind Norli will offer a three day intensive course on the subject of Advanced Valuation Techniques in Investment Banking. This would be the first and opening collegiums in the series of top level executive education international courses in advanced finance and banking planned here on The Isle of Knowledge.
Educational activities in May will continue with Conferences of the European Science Foundation, eStudent - from the Faculty of Economics and Business Zagreb, Majors’ Meeting of Marketing Agency DraftFCB London, ....
Apart from the participants of these educational programs and seminars, all of our guests at Villas Kolocep will have the unique opportunity to attend one of the numerous A` la Carte Education Workshops; combining pleasure and finding interesting and captivating things about the Dubrovnik region’s natural and cultural heritage by learning some of the traditional skills still used by locals, or improving language, communication or art skills.

More details about all activities will be presented on a new web site that is in development.

Moja životna pustolovina

During the Easter vacation non-profitable institution "The Isle of Knowledge" and "Children’s Knowledge Assembly" were hosting a huge gathering on island of Koločep where many famous people demonstrated their jobs to primary school children from all over Croatia. Even though the Easter schedule was busy - for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon every day - the whole event went by in a relaxed atmosphere among children and adults who were watching the whole event sitting in the audience. As seen from the event itself, the attendance and interest for each guest/teacher was great. Tarik Filipović, Zvone Boban, Larisa Lipovac, Domagoj Račić, Ivanka Mazurkijević, Edo Pezzi, Joško Marušić told children all the intersecting details about their profession and through many different workshops explained to them what is their occupation, how did they become to be what they are now and why are they the best in what they do. The main purpose of this program was to understand the true values of their professions for children and their parents, which will help children in their selection of their future careers.

The main Easter event was the second Children's assembly meeting where all the members (county heads) reported to the public about their activities during the one-year term. They talked about successes and problems they had encountered during the whole year. The meeting was presided by Drago Braić, the president of Children’s Knowledge Assembly.
